| One of the most popular cycling destinations in West Virginia and a favorite in the
Greenbrier Valley is the Greenbrier River Trail. Free Spirit Adventures provides
shuttle services along the complete trail. Our most popular shuttles are to Cass and
Renick. Many cyclists enjoy spending the night in the Lewisburg area and taking an
early morning shuttle the following day. The trail is a 75-mile long former railroad which spans Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties and is now used for hiking, bicycling, ski-touring and wheel-chair use. The former Greenbrier Division of the C & O Railway was built at the turn of the century to serve the booming timber industry of that time. The Trail passes through numerous small communities and traverses 35 bridges and two tunnels as it winds its way along the valley. Throughout much of its length, the Trail is directly adjacent to the beautiful Greenbrier River and is surrounded by peaks of the Allegheny Mountains. So don't forget your swimsuit. The Greenbrier River is a favorite swimming "hole." This trip can be a "Mom and Pop" ride; an adventure weekend; or fantastic training. Regardless of your goal, the Greenbrier River Trail will meet your expectations and the scenery will be unforgettable. |
